I REMEMBER YOU

Samantha pulled up to the pump at the gas station and got out. As she watched the numbers on the pump, her mind started to wander. She sighed and crossed her arms as she thought about a few weeks ago when she’d broke up with Jeff, the guy she’d been seeing for about a year. What’s wrong with me? Jeff was a good guy. He was good looking and a successful lawyer. He treated her like a queen. Most girls would kill to date a guy like him. She didn’t feel anything with him – no passion or excitement.

The pump clicked as it stopped and Samantha put the gas cover back on. She’d forgotten her bottle of water for yoga class, so she ran inside the gas station to get one. She didn’t want to be late for class and not get a decent spot, so she trotted inside and grabbed the first bottle she saw from the cooler. She took it to the counter and paid. As she turned to leave, she ran right into someone else approaching the counter and dropped her water on the floor.

“I’m sorry!” She bent down to get her water as the person she ran into did too.

“Hello Samantha.” A deep voice filled her ears as the stranger handed her the water. Her heart started pounding. Could it be? She looked up quickly. It was Lance!

“Hey Lance. What’re you doing here?” She asked nervously. She was surprised to see her old boyfriend at this gas station, let alone in town. He was a successful rock star now and she knew he lived in LA. She tried to casually look him over. He’d filled out some since they’d been together. His shaggy blonde hair was cut shorter now and he looked older, more mature. She had to admit he looked good. Time had been very kind to him.

“I had some business to take care of here for Mom,” he replied.

She smiled. Always such a mama’s boy. “How is she?” Samantha had always liked his mom. She’d always told Lance to treat her better and that the two of them were going to get married some day. Boy did she get that wrong!

“She’s good. How are you?” He looked down at her with those piercing gray eyes. For a second she wanted to wrap her arms around him like old times. She’d never forgotten what his hugs had been like.

“I’m good. Busy writing. My first novel comes out in about a month.” She looked down at her shoes nervously, shaking the thought of his arms around her from her mind.

“That’s great, Sam,” he said with a smile. “I know how much you always loved to write. Congrats.”

She wasn’t sure why his words of approval made her feel so good. She glanced at her phone. She was going to be late for class if she didn’t leave soon. “I actually was headed to yoga class so I should probably get going.” She looked back up at him. “It was good seeing you,” she said softly.

He smiled at her, the corners of his eyes crinkling in the way she’d always loved. “It was really good seeing you too. Take care.”

She clutched her phone and water and headed out of the gas station, her heart pounding hard in her ears. Samantha took a shaky breath as she got into her car. Trying to get her bearings, she sat for a minute before starting it. She couldn’t believe she saw Lance after all of these years. She didn’t think she’d ever see him again here in town.

Samantha started her car and headed off to class. She was looking forward to yoga. Maybe it would clear the mess in her brain that seeing Lance had created.

HOME SWEET HOME

Later that night, Samantha was in the bathroom getting ready for bed while Lance was performing his nightly ritual of checking on Emma before coming to bed. She was going to miss these little routines their family had.

She glanced at herself in the mirror. She’d managed to slip on the sheer, lacy black teddy Lance had bought her in Vegas when they got married. He had a thing for lingerie despite the fact he couldn’t keep it on her for longer than a few minutes. Tonight would probably be no exception.

She turned off the bathroom light and climbed onto their king size bed to wait for him. They had designed their bedroom to be a sanctuary, a place to relax after long months on the road or in LA while he was recording. There was a fireplace and a small sitting area and Lance had to have a big screen TV. There were times when they would get home from LA and they’d spend days in this room. She loved it, but it would be empty without Lance.

“Must’ve worn her out at the park today; she’s out cold,” Lance said as he walked into the room. He shut the door behind him and his eyes widened when he saw her. “Holy shit, Sam. What are you trying to do to me?”

A shiver went down her spine; the teddy had its desired effect. Lust and desire were written all over Lance’s face. “Oh nothing, just getting ready for bed,” she stated nonchalantly.

“What-the-fuck-ever, woman,” he mumbled, pulling his t-shirt over his head and tossing it across the room. He undid his belt and had his jeans and boxers off in record time. He hopped onto the bed by her and pulled her under him. His erection was hard against her thigh. That didn’t take long.

“You know I love that thing on you,” he growled into her ear. “And I’ve been semi-hard since earlier this afternoon. I’m not going to play around right now, Sam. I need to be inside you.”

His words sent a spark of desire straight to her womb. She reached up and cupped his face in her hands, looking deep into his blue eyes. “Then take me, Lance. Make love to me,” she whispered. She didn’t need foreplay tonight either; she needed to feel him inside her. She needed to be close to him tonight.

He made a sound deep in his throat and kept his eyes on hers as he thrust inside her. She moaned softly and arched beneath him, savoring the feel of him filling her. She wrapped her legs around him and ran her nails down his back.

They made love the rest of the night, dozing on and off in between sessions. They touched and kissed each other all over, sometimes taking their time, sometimes with a sense of urgency.

Blog Tour: Beauty Secrets by Jill Elaine Hughes

The Great Recession. Reality TV. Luxury cosmetics. And a basset hound named Botox. What do all these things have in common?

They’re all essential story components in BEAUTY SECRETS, a sexy romantic comedy novel, written in a style best described as “Jennifer Weiner meets E. L. James.”

Amanda Brown is a high-flying cosmetics executive for Revina Corporation, the oldest and most venerable cosmetics company in America. She comes from a good "old money" family, she went to Swarthmore, and she lives in a beautiful penthouse apartment in NYC’s Meatpacking District. But she's only successful on the surface----like many New Yorkers, she's also financially overextended. Her parents are dead, her trust fund is gone, and when the Great Recession hammers her company, like millions of people across America she suddenly finds her job hanging by a thread.

Enter George Watson, a hedge-fund manager and self-made man from the Midwest who swoops in from Indiana to rebuild Revina Corporation from the ground up. Even if he fired everyone else at the company, he decides to keep Amanda on for her expertise. The two of them are from different worlds, and they can't stand each other. But that doesn’t stop them from having wild no-holds-barred sex on their first meeting----for reasons neither of them fully understand.

But this is no ordinary corporate takeover, and the unlikely romance between George and Amanda is no ordinary love story. It involves corporate greed, undercover investigative reporters, a sleazy reality TV producer who puts George and Amanda's sexual relationship on national television, dark family secrets----and a dog named Botox.

Beauty Secrets Excerpt:

Amanda felt her cheeks burn. So this was George Watson, the man who now controlled her destiny at Revina. She’d just spent the past three minutes thinking about what he’d look like naked. Things couldn’t possibly get any worse.
She had to find some way out of this. “I’m sorry, George Watson, but there must be some mistake.  I am not middle management.  I am a member of Revina’s senior executive team.”
“Well, that might have been true this morning, ma’am, but it’s not now.  Now you work for me.”
Ma’am. She didn’t like the sound of that. It made her feel old. She didn’t want to feel old — not now, when she’d started feeling sexy for the first time in months, even though she didn’t quite understand why. Surely not because of this George Watson character.  No, of course not. The very idea was ridiculous. She probably just needed to visit her gynecologist to request a hormone supplement or something.
She scanned his long, hard body up and down, trying hard to squelch the rising heat between her legs. Something about this man got under her skin. But what? And why? “I hope you don’t mind my saying so, but you don’t exactly look like the type who should be running a cosmetics company,” she remarked, hoping the veiled insult might help her get control of herself.  “You have no—well, style.”
He grinned and leaned back against the dirty wall.  There was such a casual ease about him. He clearly give a damn what anybody else thought---nobody walked around Manhattan dressed like that if they did.  It was the kind of confidence Amanda Brown had never had, and never would.  She’d spent her entire life worried about what other people thought.  It was the whole reason she’d joined the beauty industry in the first place.
She wasn’t sure what led her to do what came next. Maybe it was George Watson’s casual confidence, maybe it was the fact she was still soaking wet and cold from the rain, maybe it was a combination of the two. Or maybe she just hadn’t gotten laid in so long that her body had finally had enough and took matters into its own hands.
She set the white paper bag and her purse on the overloaded desk, took a deep breath, and kissed George Watson full on the lips.
Amanda wasn’t sure what she expected him to do. He stiffened with shock at first, letting out a startled squeal. But then he relaxed, put his arms around her, and kissed her back.
They kissed closed-mouthed at first, but soon Amanda took the lead and pushed her tongue against his lips. He responded in kind, and their tongues did a long, slow dance together, exploring. She relished his slightly salty taste, along with the balmy scent of his aftershave. He pressed his body against hers, revealing a growing thickness at his groin. She ground against it, wanting to feel it inside her.
Amanda pulled herself away from him then, but only for a moment. She reached for the paper bag from the drugstore, opened it, and handed George the contents. She didn’t say a word; she didn’t have to. He knew exactly what to do with them.
Her new office was tiny and filled to the brim with furniture and supplies. There was no place to lie down, or even to sit. No, they’d have to do this thing against the wall.

Blog Tour: Life's Perfect Plan by Sarah Goodman

Synopsis:

“First comes love…then comes marriage…then comes a baby in a baby carriage.” We’ve all heard this saying. In fact, Elizabeth lived and planned her life by this children’s nursery rhyme. What happens when life doesn't go according to plan? What happens when the life you created falls apart? How do you pick up the pieces? When do you finally realize what life handed you is indeed perfect, even if it was never part of your plan?

Elizabeth “Beth” Thomas is a thirty year old senior associate at a law firm. Married to her college sweetheart, Grant, they have traveled, built their dream home, and are ready to become parents. They struggle with infertility. Grant wants a normal life again. He wants to go back to the way it was before trying to have a baby consumed their lives. Once they agree to go back to a “normal” life, life hands over a different plan for Elizabeth.
Elizabeth struggles with loss and heartache. She leans on her family, her two best friends, and her doctor. What Elizabeth doesn't see is that her life is going according to plan, only it took a different route to get there.

"Sometimes we plan our perfect life, but life tends to give us life's perfect plan.”

EXCERPT:

“I’m scared Grant, I don’t want us to be alone forever.  I’m approaching thirty.  I know my window for babies is only open for a little longer.  I want us to have children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.  I envision us sitting in that formal living room with our children opening Christmas presents.  We even built this huge house for a future family.  It scares me that it will be just you and me in this house.  It scares me even more that you will get bored with just me, and leave me for someone who can give you a child.”

Grant walks over and scoops me into his lap.  I rest my head on his firm chest.  I breathe him in.  I wrap my arms around him brushing his long dark brown hair off his shoulders.  I kiss his neck, I dart my tongue out and lick the sensitive spot on his neck.  He tastes salty, and starts to shiver.

“Beth, look at me sweetheart.”  I push my arms out and grab his shoulder as I look into his deep brown eyes.  He uses his thumb to wipe away the tears on my cheek.  “Sweetheart, I’m not going anywhere.  Whether we have a baby or not I will be by your side till the day I die.  I can’t fathom a life without you.  We’ve been together since we were twenty one, and we will be together till we are one hundred and one.”

I give him a smile and a little chuckle.  “That’s a long time with me, you sure about that?”  I snicker.

“It’s not long enough, I will need longer with you.”

I wrap myself back into him and grab his face and kiss him with everything I have.  He tells me to hold onto him.  He stands up, and carries me into our room.  He gently places me in the center of the bed.  He lies to my side, grabs a hold of my chin with his thumb and forefinger.  He stares at me as if he is remembering every detail of my face.  “Sweetheart, I love you so damn much.  We will have a family one way or another.  Just take a break for a while, for me.  Please.”

I put my arms around his neck and bring him to my lips.  We kiss long and hard.  He puts his hand under my blouse and rubs my stomach.  My hands are in his hair trying to pull him closer into me.  I need us to be even closer.  He yanks my blouse up and over my head, along with my bra.  Grant kisses my neck, then gives me gentle kisses along my collarbone, down my chest to my breast where he starts to suck and tug my nipples.  With his right hand he fondles my left breast; he tugs and pinches my nipple with his finger and thumb.  Shocks of electricity go straight to my core.  “Grant, please I need you…please make love to me.” Pushing himself up, he sits back on his heels, licks his lips.  He scoots back from sitting between my thighs.   He removes my belt, opens the button on my slacks, pulls my slacks off and throws them on the floor. He puts his thumbs in the waist of my black lace panties and leisurely pulls them down.  He just gazes at me, full of love in his eyes.  I love this man more than anything, I love him more than any future children we may or may not have.  I look into those coffee colored eyes and appreciate he is my family.  I get lost in the taste of his mouth, the slide and thrust of his tongue, and the sensation of his hands on my body.  He stands up and gets completely naked in front of me.  Leaning back down on top of me I feel his arousal pressed against my thigh. I whimper and plead.  I need him.  “Please Grant…I need you.”

He fills me in one hard, yet gentle thrust.  I moan into his neck, the intense feeling was surreal.  In that moment I felt alive, and normal.  We made love. The type of love that we haven’t made in a long time. The type of love that has brought us back to where we should be.

The next morning we wake up entangled with each other.  “Good Morning, my sweetness.  How did you sleep?”  Grant says is his morning voice.

“I was thinking, about what we talked about.”

“Beth, can we give it a rest for a few days?  We just talked not even ten hours ago about this.”

“Love, just listen and then I won’t bring this up for a long time.”  I roll completely onto him, and place his head in between my hands.  “Listen…One more time.  All I ask is we give IVF one more time and then we will look into other sources if it doesn’t work out.  Just, one more time and who knows maybe by the end of the year we will be pregnant?”

He places his hands on either side of my cheeks.  Licking his lips, “Sweetheart, I would do this over and over, but it is you that I worry about.  Your body and mind go through so much stress.  I just want a break from it all.  I am all for one more time, as long as you promise we are done for a while.  We can practice more on the old fashion way of getting pregnant.”  He says while wiggling his eyebrows at me.
“I promise, this is our last time…for a while.”

My Review: 4 stars

We all have a plan, one we build in our mind, or with the person you love, like an architect, we create a path, one we think will give us a life filled with happiness, one that when we get older we can sit
back and reflect on our perfect life.

  path photo 211099_466393736762365_1130710096_n_zps9b31e8d1.jpg

However, what happens when a bump in the road causes your perfect plan to go haywire, Do you give up or plan again? Grant and Elizabeth Thomas had a lifetime of plans laid out before them; love, marriage, successful career’s and one day a house full of children. Only their path was changed by life’s plan.

“Sweetheart, I’m not going anywhere. Whether we have a baby or not I will be by your side till the day I die. I can’t fathom a life without you. We’ve been together since we were twenty one, and we will be together till we reach one hundred and one.”

Faced with infertility and struggling with the cost of artificial insemination/IVF a decision to try one more time is made. I wasn’t drawn into the story right away I thought it was going to be another boy marries girl, girl can’t get prego, they stop trying and bingo a baby is on the way, WRONG… it’s far from it, it’s so much more, it’s life’s plan for Elizabeth. Fate is about to step in, taking control and her life’s plan will be repaved.

Damn, what a roller coaster ride filled with emotions wait for the reader. The author did a great job in describing the pain of loss and the anger that follows.

crying eye photo cryingeyetumblr_mk2wryifAV1qaqwkmo1_500_zps9d7eb1d2.gif
Grief and happiness don’t go hand in hand and yet the author was able to pull it off very nicely. She takes you through hideous pain and sorrow and then to pure joy! Compassion and the love of family and friend help Elizabeth get back on a path paved with new plans but only if she accepts it.

“It’s hard to welcome a new future when you know to do so means saying goodbye to the past.”

I liked everything about this story, Elizabeth’s friends Kate and Ella are supportive and funny as hell. I found myself laughing aloud at some of things that came out of their mouth and the way Ella described her kids will crack you up.
And then there’s Dr. Jacob Alexander he stands by Elizabeth’s
side and helps her cope not only

with grief but in preparing for life’s unexpected plans!

This is a contemporary romance; there are sexual scenes but not the erotic hardcore photo kissbed_zpsfd8e0cec.gif

in your face but certainly enough to keep you interested!

I’m looking forward to the author’s next book “Life’s Second Chance” which will be Kate’s story.
