Blog Tout & Review: The Pairing by Katie Ashley

Published: Feb. 18, 2014

A Companion Novel to The Proposition and The Proposal
After her former boyfriend left her pregnant and alone, Megan McKenzie swore off men. She spent the last eighteen months focused solely on her son, Mason, along with finishing nursing school at the top of her class. Although she’s not ready to complicate her life with a long-term relationship, a nice no-strings attached hook-up is just what she needs. At her godson, Noah’s, baptism, she finds the perfect candidate in the soft-spoken godfather, Pesh Nadeen. After all, the widower could use a good time too. But after drinking too much, the night doesn’t end the way she thought it would. Forced to leave Pesh’s house through a walk of shame, Megan hopes to never, ever see him again.
For Pesh Nadeen, the very sight of Megan sends him into an emotional tailspin. Since she reminds him too much of what he has lost, he wants to be out of her sight…at first. But the more he gets to know her, there's something about the diminutive blonde that causes his protective side to go into overdrive, and he finds himself wanting more. When Megan is assigned to work in his ER to complete her nursing clinicals, he sees it as fate, but she’s having no part of it. She only wants a physical relationship while he wants far more.
What happens next is a sexy game of cat and mouse to see who will break first or if both of them will eventually get more than they ever bargained for.
The Pairing 4 Star Review

When an author adds a new character to an already established and loved series two things can happen. One, the reader will love and welcome the character or the reader will instantly reject the newbie.

That being said, Pesh Nadeen was that character for me. Introduced in The Proposal he posed a threat to my much-adored Aidan Fitzgerald. Even though that scenario worked itself out and Aidan and Emma have their happily ever after I couldn’t get past his presence in Emma’s life.

In “The Pairing” Pesh, a now trusted friend to Emma and Aidan is asked to be godfather for their son Noah with Megan McKenzie, Aidan’s niece godmother. Aidan is about to try his matchmaking skills on the two.

Megan is a young single mother who hasn’t dated in two years and the choices she made in college still cause her pain. She’s not looking for a dating relationship, she just wants a little fun, some sexy adult time.

Pesh a successful doctor in the trauma center of a local hospital still grieves the death of his wife. When they find themselves working together things heat up quickly.

He is not a fuck em and leave em type guy, he respects Megan and wants more than she is offering.

I did like Pesh’s approach, for every orgasm he gives Megan she has to go on a date with him, clever.

I loved that the Fitzgerald family had a major presence in the story. Aidan is funny as hell and made the story for me.

I tried to like Pesh I really did but to me he will always be “the other man”.
He is a sweet, compassionate and sexy man, just not for me, I think I have a mental block that prevents me from accepting him, my fault not the author’s.

There are some hot scenes between Pesh and Megan

but it lacked drama, everything flowed too smoothly, no break ups, no fighting, no ex’s, it all came together for them with little effort. I like drama, angst and turbulence.

There are heart-warming scenes between Pesh and Mason, Megan’s son

and a heart-breaking scene at the hospital as Pesh relived his wife’s death.

and some tender melt your heart, words of love.

Aidan did come to the rescue and left me in stitches.

I’m going to miss him, a few surprises for both the Fitzgerald and Nadeen families. I enjoyed the author going full circle with bringing AJ and Mia into the story, Dez, Pesh’s brother piqued my interest. Rowdy, just my style.

The end of a series is often hard for readers but I know that Katie Ashley has other works in progress that will without a doubt draw me in and have me falling for other characters as much as I enjoyed the Fitzgerald’s.
