Cover Reveal: Picking Up the Pieces by Elizabeth Hayley

Picking Up the Pieces Synopsis:

After a myriad of mistakes and a devastating breakup, Lily Hamilton is no longer the impulsive, selfish person she had once been. Now, she longs for the chance to make it up to the one person she knows holds the key to her happiness. But can he get beyond who she was and love her for who she is now? Or is history destined to repeat itself?

Adam Carter has gone through his own metamorphosis. His days of serial monogamy are long gone, and he's been burying his hurt by dating women he has no intention of committing to. But when he sees Lily for the first time in months, he's reminded of the man he used to be; the man he wants to try and be again--for her.

Max Samson is on the downward spiral from hell. Drinking and meaningless sex have taken over his life once again, causing him to revert back to the man he'd been before Lily fell into his life. But when his mother invites Lily back into his world, he suddenly remembers how good it felt to have her there. Even if he might not get to keep her.

Find out how Lily gets her happily ever after in this final installment of her story.  This book is recommended for mature audiences due to language and unbelievably awesome sexual content.

Excerpt from Chapter 4: Adam

The drive to school took even longer than expected as Eva told me repeatedly to slow down and be careful going over any speedbumps for fear of ruining her makeup.  “Where’d you learn how to do that anyway?” I asked, nodding toward some powder thing she had in her hand.

“Brittany’s mom.  She taught a bunch of us at a sleepover.”  Her voice seemed more chipper than it had before we'd left the house.  Only ten minutes earlier she’d been ready to give me a third degree burn with that hair contraption, and now she acted like it never happened.  Teenagers.

Brittany’s mom?” I raised an eyebrow and looked over at her hoping that she’d pick up on the reason for my question without having to spell it out for her.  Brittany’s mom was not the female influence I wanted for Eva. Her skin stayed perpetually tan, even during the winter thanks to baby oil and tanning salons.  And to my knowledge, she didn’t own one article of clothing that did not cling to her body like plastic wrap. I wasn’t sure what she did for a living, but some of the other fathers and I had speculated on more than one occasion.

Eva flipped the mirrored visor up roughly, letting it slap against the roof.  “Yeah, Brittany’s mom.  Gosh, what’s your problem today?”

There’s the Eva I remember so vividly from this morning.  “Sorry,” I replied with a slight shrug of my shoulders and a smirk.

“Just drop me off over there,” she said pointing to a side entrance of the building that was about thirty yards away from the main doors.  “I don’t want people to see me getting out of your car.”

As ridiculous as I thought that was, she was still a thirteen-year-old girl, and I didn’t want to embarrass her.  I rolled my eyes, but began to veer down the driveway toward the entrance Eva had requested.

Until I saw her.  Lily. Walking up the sidewalk toward the school. My mind scolded itself for thinking her name. And as if by reflex, I slammed on my breaks and threw the car into reverse.

“What are you doing, Dad?  I said up there.”

“Uh, I’m gonna drop you at the edge of the parking lot.” I searched for an excuse that would seem believable.  Somehow telling Eva that I didn’t want to run into her teacher from last year (you know, the one I’d been screwing) didn’t seem like an appropriate response.  “The buses are pulling up.  It’ll be easier to turn around.  And it's not cool to be seen with me, remember?"  I quickly added hoping that would strengthen my argument.

Eva seemed to accept the excuse without question, and I sighed internally with relief.  But Eva had always been observant: able to read people better than most.  “What are you looking at?” she asked as her eyes shifted toward the school.

Shit, shit, shit.  Had I been that obvious?  I was surprised at how easily I recognized her from twenty-five yards away. Her wavy brown hair had grown longer, almost reaching the middle of her back.  And her skin was bronzed from the summer.  But as much as I didn't want to think about her, didn't want to see her, I couldn't stop my eyes as they made their way up her bare legs to imagine the soft curve of her ass under that tight skirt.  And as I ogled her, my mind reminded me how difficult these last five months had been.  I'd had nothing but time to think about what had happened between us. And the simple truth was that, as painful as the summer had been, my life was easier without her. She had been disloyal.  And selfish.  And these were transgressions I didn’t think I could forgive. So, I had made a valid attempt at moving on.  I’d even seen a few women, though nothing too serious.

But even though I didn’t want to think about her, my dick had other plans.  It twitched at the sight of her confident stride as she made her way toward the building.  With no luck, I willed myself to look away, to shut my eyes.  I tried to think of anything but grabbing her by the waist and pulling her against me.   Anything to rid myself of my sex-filled visions.  But to no avail.

For once, I was thankful for Eva’s short attention span.  She had already gathered her things and exited the car, seemingly forgetting about her question.  Thank God.

But as she shut the door, I realized that forgetting the subject completely had been too good to be true. “Oh, that’s Ms. Hamilton,” Eva said excitedly as she popped her head in the window one last time.  “I loved her."

As Eva made her way toward the building, my eyes remained on Lily, penetrating her with my gaze.  "Me too," I whispered.

I waited until she entered the building before I reached down to adjust myself through my pants. This is gonna be a long fucking day.

About the authors:

Elizabeth Hayley is actually "Elizabeth" and "Hayley," two friends who love reading romance novels to obsessive levels. This mutual love prompted them to put their English degrees to good use by penning their own. The product is Pieces of Perfect, their debut novel. They learned a ton about one another through the process, like how they clearly share a brain and have a persistent need to text each other constantly (much to their husbands' chagrin). They are currently getting ready to release Sex Snob, a novel centered around Lily’s roommate Amanda, and have also begun writing the sequel to Pieces of Perfect.

"Elizabeth" lives with her husband, one and a half year old daughter and nutjob of a dog.
“Hayley” lives with her husband and her own crazy dog. They are about to adopt a newborn soon.
Elizabeth Hayley's writing motto is best captured by the words of Patrick Dennis: "I always start with a clean piece of paper and a dirty mind."

Daisy’s fall

How did this happen to me? Just months ago I was in a loving, committed relationship with a man who I believed adored me. Nothing was standing in our way of being married and having the white picket fence, babies and all the happiness I could stand. Now I sit here on the edge of a bed in a shitty tour bus crying into my hands while a dozen little white sticks lie all over the floor laughing at me proving that I am a total fuck up.
The diamond on my hand does nothing but make me angry as it glistens, wet with my tears. I’ve screwed everything up. I let myself believe for a while that I could have a happy ever after. I let myself think that I was worthy of something as precious as love. Instead, I have ruined at least four lives in the ashes of my monumental lapse of rational thinking.
I always think things through. Daisy Shayne never jumps without looking where she would land. I had a plan. I mean literally, I write the shit down and check it off as I complete it. I was nothing if not meticulous in my calculating of my life this far.
My parents planned nothing. I watched them constantly bailing water from the boat, borrowing from Peter to pay Paul and getting nowhere in life because of not having a plan. Well I had a plan damn it! Now as I look at my list all I want to do is jump from my boat and let myself drown. It would be so much easier than to face what is coming when those bus doors open and my life comes to an end. There is no hiding this. There is no fixing the situation. It’s going to destroy everyone involved, including myself in the process…
Wait! I am getting too far ahead of myself. You need for me to start from the beginning to get the full picture here. You need to know everything and then you will understand.

Blog Tour & Review: Strip Me Bare by Marissa Carmel

Title: Strip Me Bare

Author: Marissa Carmel

Genre: New Adult

Release Date: October 10, 2013

Cover Art: Amber Rendon - Novel Idea Design

“I may have had more lovers than you, and I may take my clothes off for countless women, but you are the only one who can strip me bare.”

Do you ever stop loving someone just because they’re gone? Five years ago Ryan Pierce disappeared from Alana Remington’s life without leaving so much as a post-it note behind. He was the one she gave her heart to, her soul to, and her virginity to.  So imagine her surprise when she finds him dancing at one of NYC’s hottest male revues as Jack the Stripper.

Ryan never stopped loving Alana, and now that she serendipitously dropped back into his life, he’s vowed never to lose her again.  But being together has its costs, and challenges Alana isn’t sure she can handle.

She finally has Ryan back; but how in the world is she supposed to share the love of her life with half of the women in New York City?

We stop in front of some hanging crystals. They clink as Ryan pushes them aside, “after you.”  I walk under an orange spotlight, into a small space with a white leather couch deep enough to lie on and walls a warm golden yellow.

Ryan steps in behind me and presses his body flush against mine. My mind races.

Is he really going to do this?

Am I really going to let him?

Can I even handle this? Five minutes ago he was with another woman. Quite possibly in this same room doing God only knows what.

“Why do you do this Ryan?” I expel. I know he explained it in words, but I need to experience it to truly understand.

He ambles around me so close; the only thing separating us is a whisper of air.

“I told you, the money,” he says as he unbuttons his shirt.

“You said women too,” I watch him cautiously, my gaze jumping between his eyes and his chest.

“That was before you walked back into my life. You’re the only woman I want to touch now. The others, like you saw before, it’s just an act. A business transaction. It’s what I have to do to get what I want.”

“Doesn’t it make them feel used?” I flick my eyes up at him.

“It mustn’t. They always come back.”

“You like it. I saw your face. That wasn’t an act.”

Ryan stands right in front of me, his shirt unbuttoned and dangling open. “I won’t lie to you Alana, I’ll never lie to you,” his tone is hard, but seductive. “I do like the attention. But it’s not real. It’s my job to sell attractiveness and fantasy, and I do it well. But that’s all it is, fantasy and I know it. When I’m with you, that’s my real.”

My breath catches when he says the word real. I can’t help but find the irony in his words; I’m exactly to him what he is to me. Two people one and the same, both living a double life to get what they want; a future and each other.

And that is what I want. A future, with Ryan.

I go to put my hands on his chest, but he steps away shaking his head no. “In this room, it’s all about you,” he walks around, stopping right behind me. “You have to tell me what you want Alana,” he whispers in my ear and I almost go limp, the sound of his voice is erotic as hell.

I swallow hard, but can’t utter a single word, because truth be told, I have no freakin’ idea what I want. At least, not in this scenario.

Ryan starts to rub my shoulders. I think he can feel my hesitation.

“Why are you so tense? This is supposed to be fun.”

Fun? The word rattles around in my head. Fun - a time or feeling of enjoyment or amusement.

Okay, let’s have some fun.

I turn around to face him and our eyes lock. “Show me.”

“Show you what?” his tone dripping with sensuality.

“Show me Jack the Stripper.”

Holy fuck!

Blog Tour & Review: Uncomplicated by Dawn Robertson & Jo-Anna Walker

Three days a week I work your everyday nine-to-five. The paperwork is never-ending. The pay is mediocre, and the office drama is simply intolerable. But the other four days a week, I am my own boss.

My name is Jennifer Sunshine and I am a Vegas Call Girl.
My clients range from frat boys on spring break to multimillionaire business men with stuffy wives and less than ideal equipment.

I don’t have a daddy-complex or some kind of sob story.
I don’t need the money, but it is nice.
The only thing I crave is the exhilarating feeling I get from being in control of something. Anything.

My life is uncomplicated, simple even.
That was until he bulldozed his way into my life, and everything changed.
Overnight he makes me realize how much I truly need him.

Uncomplicated Review 3.5 Stars

I’ve been a fan of Dawn Robertson for a while now so I was excited when she announced a new book. This gal can write hot steamy sex scenes. Jennifer Sunshine is a high priced call girl in Vegas. photo red.jpg This gives her the sexual control and pleasure she craves.

Mathis Verlinden is a mega businessman who just opened a club in Vegas. photo verastegui4.jpg Handsome, rich, single with a sexy European accent and a dominant player… nice package! He sees Jennifer at the opening of his club and voila, she’s the one.

The fun starts when she wakes up the next morning in his penthouse, married to Mathis.

Too many contradictions for me; Jenny demands control then submits on day one. She doesn’t do it for money but jacks up her price when a repeat client calls saying he’s bringing an extra.

Did I read that right, $5000; damn I’m in the wrong business.

At times Mathis freaked me out, his insistence she never leave and squeezing her throat was psycho like. They spend almost the entire book either in bed or in the bathroom. photo knees.jpg

Don’t get me wrong the sex scenes are erotic and steamy-lious but there were so many elevator love photo 827748-1.gif

I found myself flipping through to the next page looking for more.
I’m a goner for a love story but not love at first f^uck. I like my characters to work on it, to earn it.

With Jenny and Mathis they f^ucked and loved first then got to know each other later.

Sweet ending.

About Jo-Anna Walker:

I'm a new self-published author who just got introduced to the writing world early 2013. My aunt suggested that I write a story because I'm an avid reader but I waved it off and left it alone. Well this year, a story came to me and I went with it. It took me a little bit but I finally got a story idea that worked and now I can't stop or control the characters/stories that keep popping up in my head.

I'm born and raised in Canada and I live with my very wonderful and supportive husband, Michael. We don't have any children (yet) unless you count our cat. My hubby been my rock through this whole new experience for me. I couldn't have done it without him and my friends and family.

One of the many things I love about this new chapter in my life is that I'm learning constantly. It's never a dull moment and as long as one person likes my story, I am happy.
